Description
I am particularly intrigued by layering to give a sense of depth to images, which can trigger a variety of emotions and thoughts for the viewer. I like to marry text with
images in such a distinctive style which prompts viewers to reflect on political issues, leaving them questioning what is happening in the world. Joke the work below became
a forum of the exploration of these issues on both what we see and what we know. Putting the text inside the subject matter is a common technique I have used in my
work, as I consider it to be raw.

How To Name Your Emotions
`Eva Popović
Video
Description
How To Name Your Emotions is an instructional video highlighting the inability of technology to replicate genuine human emotions.
Emotions are typically recognised by those who feel them instinctively. However, for a population of people who feel them intensely or have a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder they are difficult to discern.
In the video, a bespoke deepfake of the artist leads you through the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy model of correctly identifying your emotions. This model is used to teach people with emotional issues how to recognise and describe their emotions, step by step.
At last, comparison is made between the compound model and the frigidity of the AI.

Take Break Get Pay

Description
Take Break Get Pay
April 29th, 2023
Mixed materials
yique work
On April 29th, 2023, at noon London time, the artist Yique placed five mattresses in front of the Piccadilly Circus screen in the center of London, inviting passersby to lie down and rest. Anyone who rested on the mattress could earn income provided by Yique at a rate of £12 per hour or £1.5 per 5 minutes.
Yique wrote in the filming agreement that ‘ Take Break Get Pay is a social experiment initiated by the artist Yique, hoping that everyone can view it in a relaxed manner regardless of whether they participate or not. He looks forward to your relaxation and participation! ’
In doing so Yique attempts to explore the interrelationship between giving and consuming in a capitalist society, the value definition of social behavior, and observing and being observed carrying out employment and consumption in public spaces. Through partly imperceptible staged interventions, he explores the differences in values of social classes and attempts to loosen the good and evil views defined by society under power relations.

ZEN
Shen Fung Lin
Drawing
Description
This series of works is inspired by
The "useless use" of the ancient Chinese thinker Zhuangzi
In addition to the traditional Chinese "碑拓" craft
Action painting that combines the two new "contamination methods''
"Uselessness" in Zhuangzi's Thought
Is to pursue a reasonable state of understanding in time and space
Without being restricted to the “useful” frame
Get rid of the concept of "use"
A prejudice to abandon "tools"
Often after transcending, it leads to a higher realm
I used natural stones with different textures
Rubbing its natural texture on paper
I used: Charcoal pen / charcoal pen / graphite / pencil / white charcoal... and other media
Aiming at the traditional "smoke method" in Chinese landscape painting
Experiments with subversion and innovation
And created this series of Shituo paintings
I use Zen as the core of my spirit
Conducted experimental creations of this series of Action painting
Zen is an abstract concept
As if the air is everywhere
But it's out of reach
What I want to convey through my work is
"Heaven, earth, mountains and rivers, all things have spirits, coexist with each other and exist in the way of harmony."
Such feelings that cannot be explained in words

Rosel Jackson Stern
Acryllic on canvas
Description
This work was inspired by the forest greens and blues of Dorset, where I spent 1 month at an aritst residency. In every portrait I make, I try to feel the ground beneth my feet and channel the spirit that comes through for that place. It starts with a sketch that is then projected onto the canvas, traced in pencil and then painted in several layers to achieve the desired saturation.

Barking Flood Barrier
Rory Brooke
Screenprint
Description
The flood barrier is visible in the distance from miles around in East London. It is though difficult to get to with Beckton Sewage Treatment works in front of it. I found an obscure path down the River Roding and was rewarded with fascinating views of the barrier and the sewage outfall. I love the foreshore at low tide with the green stones, shingle, mud flats and white churned water. The colour and textures contrast with the grey concrete towers and blue gate. The flood barrier also highlights the question of climate change and adaptation. In future centuries London will either be mostly under water or even more substantial defences will be needed.

This bowl was created from a piece of ancient yew that grew for centuries at Chillingham Castle, Northumberland and was brought down during Storm Arwen on 25th November 2021. Paul Spencer Clamp
Acrylic on canvas
Description
The painting is in the format of a horizontal rectangle. The outward appearance is of organic, segmented columns, or perhaps tubes, which move and disperse from left to right across the canvas. These structures may also be bacteria or plant-like fibres which move from a mass towards separation and ultimately dissolution. Behind this is the premise that everything is in motion, nothing is fixed, be it in the movement of stars across the sky, blood within a vein, sap within a leaf, or the atoms within a rock. All is in a state of flux, nothing is permanent, and although we try to impose order, to construct a narrative with which we feel secure, in the final equation all is chaos.

Vault
Paul Spencer Clamp
Acrylic on canvas
Description
The painting has three main elements, a field of points of light which runs diagonally across the canvas, two lines of abstracted clouds which also run diagonally, and a field of metallic blue which runs alongside and sometimes amongst the clouds. Metaphorically these three elements represent perhaps our aspirations and at the same time our limited, blinkered vision. We are beguiled by the beauty of the clouds and rarely see beyond them, yet the vault of space is there beyond the clouds if we were to only look for it. The vault of space represents itself but also the infinity of possible choices, and at the same time the ultimate destination for mankind, as well as the deeper meaning of infinity itself.

Attract/Repulse
Paul Spencer Clamp
Acrylic on canvas
Description
Outwardly, the dominant element of the painting is the three red/orange orbs fringed by idealised flames or perhaps magnetised extrusions that radiate out across a blue metallic ground which is populated with myriad small points of light. From an invisible point located just above the canvas, five rays of semi transparent yellow light radiate down across the orbs and points of light to eventually disappear from the lower edges of the canvas. The deeper dynamic of the painting is the underlying question of whether the flames or magnetised extrusions will meet and either interact harmoniously or cause friction/mutual destruction, which on another level is a paradigm for the current behaviour of sentient, especially human, life. The points of light are our potential and the yellow rays our possible salvation.

Broken heartwood
Paul Ferris
Wood veneer with cork backing, brass wire, waxed thread, sewing needle
Description
As a tree grows it builds, forming ring after ring. Once it's cut down it starts to dry out. The tensions within the wood build and cracks start to form. Eventually the tensions are too much and the wood cracks straight through the heart of the tree breaking many of those rings. The crack will not heal so we try our best to sew ourselves back together but again the pain is too much and our thread burns through. It is only with the help from others that really we can sew us back together again.

Natalia Serova
Canvas on a wooden stretcher, oil paints, Canvas. Size 50x60cm
Description
The painting depicts a woman holding two babies in her arms. This is the mother of the twins, she gently and carefully protects them, and it will always be so, even when the children grow up and leave the house, but until that moment it will not be soon. In the background of the picture is a dark sky. The constellation Gemini can be seen in the sky. In ancient times, when people believed in spirits, they believed that they could take on human form, which is why they called them angels. Angels protect and protect their wards. Matilda Walker Evans
Pen on paper
Description
My intimate connection with nature provides a rhythm to my art which makes it relevant to the environment I exist in. I wanted to create a sense of awe in nature, demonstrating that nature can be used to highlight philosophical ideas about our connection with it. I aim to give the viewer a sense of wellbeing, of wholeness and escapism when they look at my pieces, whilst I use nature to help me develop my own artistic language.
My work aims to illustrate that we are inseparable from nature, our whole lives depend on the earth which sustains our very life force.
Through my pen drawing I do not seek to replicate exactly what I see, but a version of it. I do this by closely studying my subject and working repeatedly on detail, until I have a good enough representation of it.

Vale, Mare Tranquillitatis
Lau Suen Yan
Soft pastel on paper
Description
This is inspired by a Cantopop song of Ian Chan Cheuk Yin, literally "Vale, Mare Tranquillitatis" (再見 寧靜海). Its English name is given by a Hong Kong famous lyricist, Wyman Wong, who writes the lyrics for Ian Chan. The artwork shows endless reminiscences of a man's love, who passed away in their times of happiness. They have promised each other to meet again on the moon.

After one of the summer hikes in Malham few years ago I took this picture that I soon painted. I tried to capture the vibrant colours of the summer when the nature bursting and thriving, can imagine the warmth in the ear and the sounds of nature - the stream, gentle breeze, birds twitching.
During the pandemic when we all missing the nature due to isolation - I found my little escape to the nature in painting.

Broken Limbs and Bodies
Jun Shya
Oil, Acrylic and Tape on Canvas
Description
‘What if your past, present, and future are happening all at once?’ Intrigued by the astonishing theory known as the “block universe”, Jun’s multi-medium paintings explore ever-present events through blurring the line between the past, present, and future. Her works shift between abstraction and representation with a diverse range of painterly methods and dynamic compositions. The recurring silhouette figure sitting on a chair is created through found images and her own imagination inspired by a mysterious figure she perceived in her dream. Both incongruous and mysterious, her paintings invite viewers to interpret and raise questions of whether things she perceives are from our unconscious desires or reality.

Seascape II
Joshua Obara Norwood
(Assemblage) Recycled Plastic on Acrylic on Recycled Paper on Canvas
Description
In effect, this work uses recycled homemade paper, repurposed scrap plastic and fabric that would have been landfilled. The process behind this is that a painting is created on the paper layer then plastic is overlayed above it and then repainted with a new vision of the seascape after it had been affected by the plastic pollution. Therefore, it results in this beautiful texture and expressive feel for the environment yet albeit fearful.

Description
THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY IS BRIGHT AND ETHEREAL AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP OUR ASCENDANCY FROM ORGANIC TO BEYOND! (2023) is an artwork that explores the extension of the human race beyond our mortal bodies. It's a spiritual piece of understanding that eventually when we advance so far we will go beyond our organic state and become conscious in contact with space itself. We will be able to go beyond our third and fourth dimensions into whatever is beyond.

The Wakings
James Mellor
oil painting black card
Description
The landscape painting is a moment of perspective of the artist’s dream and visual imagery of a dream. The red blossom tree gives a sense of rebirth of a new beginning and can be interpreted as a moment from the end of the era to the start of something new. The blossom tree spiritually signifies a mystery of wisdom and good faith as they immediately precede regeneration.
The white figure is the artist’s connection with us and others for self-confidence, success, and to appreciate ourselves inside Hundreds of these trees exist in Japan, and you can tell them apart from regular trees by the shimenawa large, twisted ropes that encircle these sacred trees. The canvas is a black background covered with beautiful striking colors to reflect depression and mental health but using painting as a therapy session shows beauty and expression of the artist’s self and passion. The waking simplicity of a lake and blossom tree with a mythical lone figure is engaging and represented with nature and the lack of embracing the moment to painting and scenery that is not as appreciated by everyone.
The cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It's a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short which people with mental health constantly battle with but rhetorically can answer why they feel the way they do. The water’s green, blue glow gives a sense of magical enchantment. Green represents nature, growth, rebirth, health, hope, and many positive things related to overall well-being. One can sense the feeling of belonging and tranquillity whenever one sees this soothing color. Blue is the color of spirituality, intuition, inspiration, and inner peace. It is also associated with sadness and depression. A highly peaceful color, blue can be especially helpful for stress management because it can encourage a powerful sense of calm.
Dreaming of falling snow should be taken as a positive sign. This dream signifies art to struggle with courage towards doing things people have always been afraid to do before which the artist struggles with confidence in painting with other artists around them overwhelmed and struggling with the fear that won’t be any good. As such, it pushes people should be feeling confident to leave their comfort zone and explore new horizons. The snow is nature that cold but a representation of people being a representation of a person being special as snow is rare in other weather conditions and is beautiful when formed.

Washday
Glen Williams
acrylic
Description
This is one of many pieces I have done based on my memories of growing up a working class town during the 1950s/60s.
Monday was washing day. Laundry was done by hand and an old mangle, no labour-saving devices just lots of elbow grease. To me as a child, the washing hanging out in the back alley resembled something of a parade with flags and banners. Any attempt by we kids to play in the back alley was usually met with response, "Get my washing mucky and you'll get a back hander".

Sun and Flag
Em Hoten
Oil and Cold Wax
Description
"Sun and Flag," is an artwork in oil and cold wax inspired by witnessing a scene of the side of a weathered, crumbling building in Havana, Cuba. Layers of paint intertwine, giving the artwork a sense of depth and complexity. Amidst the architectural decay, the sun's heat is palpable, casting a warm glow over the painting. Proudly displayed on the aged facade, the graffiti flag takes on a new significance, symbolising resilience and hope amid the passage of time.

Working Man
Em Hoten
Oil and Cold Wax
Description
“Working man” (aka my Grandad who went by the fabulous name Wally). My painting process built a variety of complimentary glazing to create a shimmering luminosity in the sky behind the pithead. This artwork comes from deep connections to my family's centuries old history and traditions with the mining industry at Pinxton and from my natural connection to my Grandad . When I really think about what those connections are, it’s the reason I love a flat cap, it’s the reason I feel joy when I rustle open a mint humbug, it’s the reason I STILL save pennies up to swap for pound coins, and it’s the reason I feel home when I smell coal.

Description
"The design responds to the different levels of the city in two ways – creating different inhabitable spaces for a variety of views, shifting the ground level. The design rethinks the relationship between the ideas of facade and ground, and imagines the way we inhabit the space between them. The spaces are attenuated, echoed and re-echoed before their sources are experienced. Its a powerful incarnation in volumetric-spatial forms of human conceptions which voluminously demonstrates, all of the spaces nonetheless maintain both architectural and narrative coherence.

Fragments of the Mind (narcissistic disorder)
Daria Ivanovich
porcelain sculpture
Description
"Fragments of the Mind" is a unique porcelain artwork featuring 8 elements arranged in a circular formation. Each element is approximately 17cm in size and depicts a different mental illness, including addiction, PTSD, paranoia, narcissism, anxiety, depression, and split personality disorder.
The presented part is a narcissistic personality disorder.
Narcissists may appear to be self-assured and confident, but they are often plagued by feelings of emptiness and worthlessness. Their constant need for admiration and attention is an attempt to fill the void that they feel inside. The Flower around represents arrogance and pride, but the crack in the middle shows how deeply woonded is individual with this disorder

“Fragility of mind”: Anxiety
Daria Ivanovich
Porcelain sculpture
Description
Part of the series: “Fragility of mind”: Anxiety
This art object represents the experience of anxiety and how it can be overwhelming and debilitating. I am suffering from anxiety for almost whole my life, and I use art as a way to express myself and convey my feelings.
The piece depicts my face with ants crawling all over it. The ants are a metaphor for the intrusive and persistent thoughts that can come with anxiety. The ants are not deadly, but they represent the way anxiety can make a person feel like they cannot function properly.
The sculpture is designed to evoke a sense of discomfort and unease

Danying chen
Acrylic on canvas
Description
Folklore transgression and gaze form the basis of my art. uses my own and society's dark memories to create a picture that is humorous, atone, and graphic, leaving the audience wanting to learn more about the weird.
"I discovered my affinity for beauty as a teen. started putting on makeup, short skirts, and nails, and dressing up. My elders accused me of dressing indecently and like a prostitute to draw in guys.
They would ask me things like, "Are you a chicken? Would you like to be a chicken? According to Chinese tradition, calling someone a chicken is disrespectful because the Chinese pronunciation of the word "chicken" is homophonic with the term "prostitute." I developed really poor self-esteem as a result of this.
In ancient China, women had a low status and it was taboo for them to be seen in publicand so they were mostly kept in captivity leaving the home was made very difficult. Their most important task in life was to produce offspring, as though they were merely instruments of fertility. I observed that this was the same fate as chickens that were kept in captivity to lay eggs.
In my project the single chicken in the painting represents the woman as an individual, while thefive chickens in the other painting represent the group. The male gaze is not directed at the individual but rather at the whole female group, reflecting societies propensity to think in terms of stereotypes and generalisations.”

The body of work Tulip Shower (2023) is a series of
monochrome, drypoint engravings. Looking closely at the surface of the prints, hatching by the drypoint needle can be observed in a solely
horizontal manner. The lengthy process of incising these parallel lines to coalesce into form slows down time for me, being brought to a state of forgetting time
completely. The fragility of the drypoint is pertinent in my work; the delicate
burr created by the incisions of the needle wears away so quickly in comparison to the time consuming process and hand labour of engraving the plate.

Hearts connection, as feelings of love, empathy, and understanding.
The heart is often considered the center of emotion and love, and thus the term "heart connection" emphasizes the importance of emotional and spiritual connections in our lives. When we connect with others on a heart level, we are able to establish a deep bond that goes beyond superficial interactions or shared experiences.
Heart connections can occur between romantic partners, family members, friends, and even strangers. It is a powerful force that can bring people together and create a sense of belonging and fulfillment. When we experience heart connections, we feel seen, heard, and valued, which can boost our sense of self-worth and confidence.
However, it is important to note that heart connections do not always come easily. It requires vulnerability, authenticity, and a willingness to be open and honest with ourselves and others. It also requires active listening, empathy, and a willingness to understand and accept others for who they are.
Overall, heart connections are essential for our emotional and spiritual well-being. They provide us with a sense of belonging, purpose, and connection to the world around us. By nurturing and cultivating heart connections in our lives, we can create deeper and more meaningful relationships with those around us.

Description
My painting depicts a child whose future has an aura of ambiguity. It's a kid who lives in a setting where she has been deprived of the right of education simply because of her gender. She has to give in to child marriage; she will be sold due to her parents' poverty. There is no right to even play in a playground without the company of a male. She cannot imagine or even have the dream of a future similar to those her European or American fellows. Her eyes has no glare of hope. This painting tries to voice out those beautiful eyes' crave for a normal life in the hope of ears willing to listen and hands willing to take measures.
